Thermal Performance of Window Coverings
British Blinds and Shutters Association (BBSA) Testing
Pemberton House, the Energy House’s neighbour, contains single- and double-glazed test windows that enable the glazing heat loss reduction provided by window coverings to be measured under controlled conditions.
The BBSA commissioned a series of tests to evaluate the thermal performance of different window coverings.
The window coverings tested reduced heat loss through double glazing by up to 33%

“Rising energy costs have made energy efficiency a top priority for households across the country and we wanted to provide consumers with some solid, statistically sound information about how blinds and shutters can help reduuce heat loss through windows.
The world-renowned University of Salford Energy House laboratory is exceptional, and we were delighted to commission and fund this vital piece of research. One of the most frequently asked questions is ‘how much blinds and shutters can help save money and energy?’ and this data can now be used as a universal reference point.”
