Energy House Labs is set to feature in Guy Martin’s new Channel 4 special, House Without Bills, airing Monday 9 February 2026 at 9:00pm.

With UK energy bills having risen by around 70% over the past five years, the programme sees Guy Martin on a mission to explore how homes can be made cheaper to heat – and even potentially bill-free. Using his engineering experience, Guy gets hands-on to investigate practical, real-world solutions that could help households cut costs and carbon.

A key focus of the 90-minute documentary is an ambitious Greater Manchester retrofit, transforming a typical 1930s semi-detached house into one of the most energy-efficient homes in Britain. Over a nine-month renovation, Guy works alongside the build team to install high-performance insulation, draught-proofing and ventilation, while exploring how heat pumps perform in everyday homes.

As part of the programme, Guy visits our Energy House 2.0, the world’s largest climate laboratory, where full-scale houses are tested in extreme weather conditions – including real snow. These experiments reveal the most cost-effective ways to reduce energy use and lower heating bills.

The programme also features an ultra-efficient Victorian church in Northumberland and a revolutionary flat-pack housing factory in Birkenhead, highlighting innovative approaches that could transform how homes are built and powered in the future.
