Celebrity television presenter and motorbike racer Guy Martin was on campus this week to film a documentary which is set to air on Channel Four early next year.

The programme, as yet unnamed, will explore energy efficiency in housing and will feature Energy House 2.0, as well as several other spaces around the country.

Professor Richard Fitton and Grant Henshaw showed Martin round the facility and answered his questions on how people can save on their energy bills.

Energy House 2.0 contains two fully functional houses, built by Barratt Redrow and Bellway, to test whether they can withstand extreme weather and temperatures – these are made to simulate the conditions of ordinary houses across the country.

The inside of the houses are monitored by sensors placed throughout, which record the performance of the building in different conditions.

Filming took place within chamber 1 of Energy House 2.0, which can reach temperatures of up to 51.5°C and can drop to as low as -23°C.

Further details on transmission will be released later in the year.
