Professor Will Swan was recently invited to speak on a panel at this year’s Northern Sustainability Summit, held at Manchester Central. The summit brought together leading voices from across the Northwest to showcase sustainability initiatives and explore pressing issues including energy, transport, biodiversity, and waste.
The panel, which featured representatives from Electricity North West and CEAMS, focused on the critical role of innovation in driving sustainability across the region. Representing Energy House Labs, Will highlighted the importance of innovation in delivering low-carbon, energy-efficient homes and emphasised the lab’s integral role in Greater Manchester’s broader innovation ecosystem.
“Energy House Labs is as much about bringing people around a problem, as it is about the research,” said Professor Swan. “We need to understand where we fit in the wider innovation landscape and how we can help businesses and consumers work towards sustainability goals. Innovation is about the connections that can bring good solutions to the market that can make the change we are looking for.”
The discussion also explored key themes such as partnerships, funding, and the importance of place in fostering innovation. Professor Swan’s insights underscored the collaborative spirit and forward-thinking approach that define Energy House Labs’ contribution to regional sustainability.
