Last month, the University hosted the Postgraduate Annual Research Conference (SPARC), bringing together over 100 postgraduate researchers for a showcase of innovation, insight, and academic excellence.

We’re thrilled to announce that Mahdi Ahmadvand, currently undertaking an iPhD titled “Development and Testing of Methodology for Smart Control Systems in Homes”—sponsored by Barratt Redrow plc—was awarded Best Poster at the event.

Winning Poster Title:
“Toward Net-Zero: State-of-the-Art Home Control Systems and the UK’s Future Home Standard”

Poster Summary:

The UK’s Future Homes Standard aims to cut carbon emissions from new homes by at least 75%. Smart home technologies support this goal, yet the integration and performance of these technologies through a unified home control app remain under explored. This study evaluates several smart home control systems from technical and user experience perspectives to inform future development and adoption.

Congratulations to Mahdi on this well-deserved recognition!
